Visual Artist. Teacher.
These have been my two passions since delving on the path of Art Education in 2016. in 2021 I received my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Art Education from the University of South Carolina in my hometown Columbia. I have since worked as a Visual Arts teacher at the secondary level, exposing 11 to 18 year old children to the fundamentals of design and as many art-making methods I can cram into a curriculum. This ranges from mediums I have more personal experience in like graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, ink, collage, and printmaking to self-taught modalities of acrylic painting, gouache, and ceramics.
Throughout my career as a teacher, I have pushed myself to learn what it is to be a studio artist and consistently maintain creative work. This has led to several individual works displayed as group exhibitions and a series of work resulting from the fast-paced “Lightning Residency” created for emerging artists. I explore themes of contemporary gender inequity through Art-Nouveau era aesthetics, tongue-in-cheek commentary on popular culture, and human connection to nature through combined figures and natural elements.
